As we welcome 2018, we often think of the personal improvements we can make in order to start the year off on a clean slate. In order to achieve our goals and maintain our resolutions in an easy and effective way, we must first clear the physical space in which we move, put an end to chaos, and create the space necessary to attract good energy. Below are some ideas inspired by my own resolutions of things you can put into practice to make your home harmonious with your intentions.
Purge everything you no longer use
This sounds like an easy one, but it’s difficult to say goodbye to things you once purchased. To make it easier, think about donating the items instead of tossing them – one person’s trash is another person’s treasure!
Refresh the bookshelves
This is a great practice to do not only during the New Year, but a few times throughout the year as well. I find that rearranging and reorganizing the bookshelves can spark design inspiration or even force you to take a second look at a book you may not have finished
Save up for special investments
Now that you’ve purged all the excess, make your future purchases mindful. Invest in items that will stand the test of time and that you’ll appreciate every time you see it. On my list? A new dresser – I’ve had my eye on Caracole’s “Amazing Grace” dresser for quite some time now and can’t wait to upgrade my current one.
Take the time to meditate
Distractions have become such a large part of our lifestyles, so taking a minute to step away from work, social media, socializing, etc will do you some good! Giving yourself a space in your home where you can relax and unwind without outside distractions will help you stick to the intention.
Put your reading nook to good use
During these cold winter months when you’re spending more time indoors than out (and have already binged watched too many hours of Netflix) pick up a new book. The book I just started reading is “Tribe of Mentors” by Tim Ferriss
